Health Business Blog Celebrates Eighth Birthday

Award-winning weblog by Health Business Group President David E. Williams covers health care business and policy every business day. Will cover #HIMSS13 conference this week

March 3, 2013 -- The Health Business Blog, the first weblog devoted exclusively to health care business and policy, has turned eight years old. The blog is celebrating the event with a special birthday edition, highlighting a popular post from each of the past 12 months. This week, the blog will cover the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in New Orleans, LA.

"I launched the Health Business Blog in 2005 to provide commentary on the business of health care and engage readers in policy discussions," said David E. Williams, author of the blog and President of the Health Business Group (http://www.healthbusinessgroup.com), a health care strategy consulting firm. "Over time it's become a central part of how we communicate and network with clients, industry experts, and the public."

The Health Business Blog (http://www.healthbusinessblog.com) provides an incisive take on health care business and policy news from the viewpoint of an experienced health care business consultant. Williams has written more than 3000 posts and has conducted over 100 podcast interviews with health care CEOs, policymakers and researchers. The podcasts are posted on the blog in audio form and then transcribed.

The blog has more than 17,000 RSS subscribers and its Twitter feed @HealthBizBlog (http://www.twitter.com/HealthBizBlog) has attracted over 6500 followers.

"As a health care executive, I rely on the Health Business Blog as my primary source of information in the rapidly evolving health care landscape," said iCardiac Technologies (http://www.icardiac.com) Chairman and CEO Mikael Totterman. "David’s commentary is concise and insightful, and he is not afraid to tackle complex issues impacting business strategy.  This level of thoughtful expert advice is a rarity in a world over-run with sound bites.”

Lora Kratchounova, Principal at Scratch Marketing + Media (http://www.scratchmm.com) added, "The Health Business Blog is among the first resources we consult for our health care clients. When it comes to understanding bigger health care and pharma trends, David is one of the most knowledgeable experts. His posts and podcasts on industry developments, new technologies and companies provide the much needed insights to stay up to date with this very dynamic industry."

"David Williams is one of the most insightful people I know on health policy, business and strategy," said Peter J. Neumann, Sc.D., Director of the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health at Tufts Medical School. "I read the Health Business Blog to keep abreast of the field."

In addition to his blogging and health care consulting roles, Williams is a board member of several for-profit and not-for-profit health care organizations. He has also served as chairman of objective review panels for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT under the ARRA/HITECH Act.

Earlier in his career Williams worked for several years in the health care practice of the Boston Consulting Group and LEK Consulting. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School with first year honors, and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wesleyan University, where he majored in economics.
