A letter to the editor of the Boston Globe suggests adding metal detectors to hospital emergency rooms for security. (Hard line needed for hospital safety.) What’s next? X-ray machines?

Truthfully, I don’t have a major problem with that, if the hospitals are in dangerous areas where that type of thing would be seen as a benefit, and of course if the hospital can afford to have it. And I’m speaking as a healthcare finance consultant who’s worked in the emergency room in the past, not as someone who has no idea of just who and what comes through those doors.
