Inside Consumer-Directed Care reports that big employers are showing more interest in offering Consumer Directed Health Plans. Based on feedback from WellPoint, CIGNA, and Aetna it appears that about half of large employers are seriously interested in the plans. However, most will offer the consumer directed plans alongside traditional plans, rather than opting for a full replacement strategy.
As more employees try out consumer directed plans, expect consumers to demand better information about quality and cost. That presents an opportunity for health plans, quality reporting collaboratives such as Massachusetts Health Quality Partners, and commercial vendors like HealthGrades.
