A rich, but corrupt market

A front page Wall Street Journal article (Medical Companies See Troubling Side of Chinese Market) examines corruption in the Chinese medical market. In bold and direct ways, doctors expect bribes from medical device companies and push expensive, sometimes unneeded services on patients. US companies like Medtronic and J&J are leery and are switching from distributors to direct sales.

Heavy smoking, big increases in obesity, pollution, stress and an aging population will make China a huge medical market in any case.
