If it worked for deadbeat dads and tax scofflaws, why not for Wal-Mart?

Senator Kennedy wants the government to publish a list of companies that have the most employees on public assistance programs for health care. For example, Wal-Mart may have 600,000 employees on Medicaid, the safety net program for the poor. The idea is to shame companies into providing health care the way deadbeat dads and tax scofflaws are presumed to pay up once their name and picture are published.I doubt it will work.Although Boston Globe reporter Thomas Oliphant refers to Wal-Mart as a "monster" for not providing health insurance to its workers, maybe the company is doing us all a favor by challenging the employer-based health insurance system that is so often decried by health reformers.
