A little bit sleazy

Internal memos revealed during the current Vioxx trial showed that one way Merck considered "neutralizing" anti-Vioxx physicians was to pay them to participate in clinical trials. The fact that Merck considered this strategy feasible reflects poorly on at least some physicians' ability to maintain their objectivity in the face of (even indirect) inducements.
