Picking on Mayor Menino

For some reason the Boston Globe chose to use its front page to pick on Boston Mayor Thomas Menino today. When Menino was being treated at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2003 and 2004 the hospital moved him off a regular floor to a VIP suite and didn't charge him extra. The Mayor didn't request the upgrade, but so many unannounced visitors arrived that it was interfering with his recuperation and bothering nearby patients. His doctors decided he needed more security and privacy than the regular floor could provide.Although much of the story is devoted to explanations from the Brigham and the Mayor about why there was nothing improper about this, the Globe seems to think there's something's amiss. The Globe seems to want the Mayor to treat the upgrade as a gift, which seems crazy to me.
