Is Patrick Swayze the inspiration for the National Health Information Network?

The other night I decided to take a break from blogging and working on MedTripInfo by watching the campy 1989 film, Road House, starring Patrick Swayze. Swayze plays "Dalton," a "cooler" hired away from another town to clean up a rough bar. What could be further away from the life of a health care consultant? But Dalton's fighting brings him into regular contact with the medical system --broken bones, knife wounds and the like. He arrives at the hospital with a suspiciously thin manila folder. (Could it be a predecessor of the Continuity of Care Record, I wondered.)The doctor (who soon becomes Swayze's love interest) asks, "Do you always carry your medical record around with you?""Saves time," answers Swayze. And here we are 20 years later. Not that much has changed.
