Don't worry, be healthy

From MedPage Today: Rose-Colored Glasses Lessen Cardiovascular Mortality in Men

ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 16 -- Men who view themselves as essentially heart healthy are more likely to be so than others who fret over a perceived precarious cardiovascular status. Those who rated their risk as lower than average were 60% less likely to die within 15 years than those who thought they had an average or elevated risk, even after controlling for actual cardiovascular risk (HR 0.4, 95% CI 0.2 to 0.8), Robert Gramling, M.D., D.Sc., of the University of Rochester, and colleagues reported in the July/August issue of the Annals of Family Medicine.Optimistic women, on the other hand, had no such reduced mortality risk (HR 1.5, 95% CI 0.8 to 2.8).

Looks like another good reason to avoid excess testing. To me the new results are a corollary to "What you don't know can't hurt you."
