Universal health care on the cheap

Writing in today's New York Times (HELP Is on The Way) Paul Krugman is too sanguine about the affordability of health care reform, pointing out that the estimated $1-1.3 trillion cost over ten years is less than 4 percent of projected health care spending. That's still a lot and the number could easily rise.But he does make a good point about who would be added:

...[T]he uninsured are disproportionately young adults, whose medical costs tend to be relatively low. The big spending is mainly on the elderly, who are already covered through Medicare.

Here Krugman is agreeing with my views, that The Medicare Monster is going to gobble us up if we're not careful.
