The NIH is poised to establish a new National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences to bolster the early stages of drug development. In this podcast interview, Ronald W. Hansen, Senior Associate Dean for Program Development and William H. Meckling Professor of Business Administration at the University of Rochester's Simon School of Business discusses the implications of the new approach. While he thinks establishment of the center sends a positive signal, he cautions that we should not expect too much from the center in the near term or perhaps ever. Overall, he admits to being somewhat pessimistic about the future of pharmaceutical development.
