Interview with PicassoMD CEO Dr. Reza Sanai

Reza Sanai had a great start to his career as a cardiologist but eventually became dissatisfied with his role. He saw 20 patients per day but realized that about 40 percent of them didn’t need to be in his office. He tried an experiment with a large primary care practice --offering instant access to his expertise.

Results were astonishing: ER visits dropped to almost zero and referrals to specialists fell by more than 40 percent. From there, Reza started PicassoMD to offer instant access at scale -- a “virtual multi-specialty clinic in your pocket” as he calls it. Results have held up and PicassoMD is expanding to multiple markets. The business model works for both capitation and fee for service providers. And it’s good for patients, too.
