The move by the MGB primary care physicians is a “big deal,” according to David E. Williams, president of the Boston consulting firm Health Business Group, and might embolden primary care doctors at other health systems to do the same thing.
“Traditionally, you don’t have physicians unionizing,” he said. “They’ve been thought of as independent individuals with a fair amount of autonomy and authority and a high level of education.”
