Back on the bottle

Back on the bottle

As I was leaving Boston I saw in the Globe that Governor Romney has decided to rescind the ban on goodie bags for new moms in the hospital. The reason for the initial ban was to make it less likely that new moms would reach for the convenient bottle of formula and let their milk dry up.

Romney agrees that breast feeding should be supported but wants support for bottle feeding, too under the guise of freedom of choice.

It's interesting that some of the local health plans now pay for high-end breast pumps. Maybe they could pay for for home lactation consultants --that could be more effective than tweaking with goodie bag policies.
