In case drug bust duty wasn't enough

In case drug bust duty wasn't enough

Recently I wrote about doctors having a tough time sniffing out drug abusing teens. As one commenter pointed out, drug cop isn't a good job for pediatricans anyway.

I was listening to the radio today in South Florida and hear about a proposed new task for docs: traffic cop. There's a problem in Florida because a lot of drivers who shouldn't be on the road --mostly elderly people-- still have their licenses. A proposal before the state legislature would require doctors to report to the DMV any patient over 15 with a mental or physical impairment that could interfere with driving.

That would sure act as a deterrent to patients seeing their doctors! Actually, maybe it would cut down office and ER visits enough to make a dent in health care spending.
